For the enlisted service member it means leaving their family behind, but for their spouse it means having to handle the home, family, their mental health, and the fear of something happening to the one they love.

I have always had an interest in the military but do not have much knowledge about deployments and how they affect the spouse back home. This topic is an interest of mine because military deployments tend to leave the spouse with a whirlwind of emotions and responsibilities.

During the time that the service member is away, the spouse goes through every emotion they could possibly go through, stress, loneliness, concern for their partner’s safety due to the not knowing what the service member is having to go through wherever they might be, all while having to hold down the fort back home whether that is taking care of children or daily household duties. This topic has peaked my interest because the challenges that a military spouse faces are not always visible to others who are not going through or have gone through the same thing, those who are not in the armed forces.

This topic is near and dear to my heart because coming the end of this summer my own husband is getting deployed to Kuwait and I will be the spouse being left home having to take care of the house and family. Goodness gracious, it makes my head spin and makes me feel so overwhelmed with the amount of things that I will have on my plate. I know that he is going to fight for us and the rest of the country but I can’t help but wonder what it will be like for me and our son at home by ourselves. I know that that sounds horrible because who knows what he will have to endure especially with everything happening in the world today, but I cant help but think about life at home and how different our day to day life will be.

Before you can get deployed you must fully understand what a deployment means and entails. A military deployment consists of various phases from pre-deployment, deployment, post-deployment, and reintegration.
